Cuba with experts at prestigious herbaria workshop in India


Havana, August 6.- India will host starting today a prestigious World Health Organization (WHO) workshop on international regulatory cooperation for herbal medicines, with the participation of experts from Cuba, among other countries.

Specialists from Bhutan, Brunei, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, Paraguay, Poland, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and Zimbabwe will also attend the event, which will take place in Ghaziabad until next Friday, reported the Ministry of Ayush, one of its national organizers.

Experts from Brazil, Egypt, and the United States will join the international workshop virtually, which aims to contribute to strengthening regulatory capacity for herbal medicines.

The workshop serves as a platform for international cooperation and technical exchange by fostering collaboration, improving safety and efficacy mechanisms, supporting regulatory convergence, and strengthening traditional medicine systems globally, according to the Ministry of Ayush.

Highlights include working group discussions focusing on the safety, regulation, efficacy, and intended use of herbal medicines.

Similarly, sessions on preclinical research, regulatory frameworks, and safety case studies, including a discussion on ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), the source details.

According to the Indian Ministry, participants will benefit from hands-on training in herbal medicines identification, heavy metal analysis and chemoprofiling.

The workshop will also showcase the Ayush Suraksha Program, which aims to strengthen safety monitoring of traditional medicines.

To delve deeper into India’s holistic health ecosystem, delegates will visit centers such as the National Institute of Unani Medicine in Ghaziabad and the Pan-Indian Institute of Ayurveda in New Delhi.

With the participation of regulatory authorities and experts from all continents, the workshop is expected to significantly contribute to the harmonization of global standards and the promotion of the safe and effective integration of traditional medicine into public health systems, the Ministry of Ayush noted.
