Israeli offensive against Gaza caused 33 dead and numerous injuries

Ramallah, Sept. 24. - The Israeli army killed 33 Palestinians today and injured dozens more in the Gaza Strip, 28 of them in Gaza City, amid heavy attacks as part of a large-scale land offensive.

Medical sources reported that 20 civilians, including children, lost their lives and dozens were injured in an air bombing against warehouses belonging to the Municipality of Gaza which housed displaced people near the Firas market.

In the Sabra neighborhood, south of the city, five more citizens died and many were injured when a house was attacked, while two women were killed in a raid on Al-Sahab Street and a man on Omar Al-Mukhtar Street, the sources specified.

The official news agency Wafa reported four deaths in a similar incident that occurred in the Nuseirat refugee camp, located in the center of the coastal enclave.

The news outlet detailed that this morning “artillery bombings continued in the eastern, southern, and northwestern areas of Gaza City, amidst intense drone flights.”

Meanwhile, the television channel Al Jazeera said the last hours have been terrifying for families still remaining in the most populous city in the territory.

Warplanes are destroying the few structures still standing in the city, now covered with dust and smoke from the explosions, it stressed.

In that regard, the spokesperson for Civil Defense in the enclave, Mahmoud Basal, denounced that the locality is under a suffocating siege from all directions by the army.

Every day, the Armed Forces of that country (IDF) bring in more than 20 obsolete armored vehicles loaded with explosives into densely populated neighborhoods and detonate them, criticized the spokesperson for that agency.

Regional media reported that the IDF, to minimize their own casualties, has begun using this method on a large scale to destroy buildings and reduce the threats of explosive devices planted by Palestinian militants.

According to reports, much of the locality and surrounding areas are already under military control amid a massive population exodus due to forced evacuation orders toward the south.

Arab television stations showed images of widespread destruction in the neighborhoods of Zeitoun, Shajaiya, and Sabra, among others, amid a growing wave of international condemnations. (Text and photo: PL)
