Drugs are a scourge that affects millions of people and causes human losses worldwide. In recent years, the use of chemical substances has increased in our country, raising alarm bells among public health authorities, led by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).
Camagüey society is no stranger to this problem, which also includes the consumption of alcoholic beverages and psychotropic drugs. Its impact is especially devastating for those who suffer from it and their families.
To address the situation, the MINSAP, together with the Ministry of Education, has implemented a strategy aimed at preventing young people from falling into drug use. As part of this initiative, the Federation of Senior High School Students (FEEM, for its acronym in Spanish) launched the "Decide Your Game" campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the harm caused by drugs.
This project includes educational talks and recreational activities, coordinated with workplaces, to promote a healthy living environment. The Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) also hold discussions in communities, giving young people the opportunity to express their concerns and receive guidance. These conversations are key to fostering an environment of common sense, mutual support, and prevention of dangerous substance use.
In addition, the media broadcasts spots and informational content about drugs and their consequences, aimed at both users and their families. A confidential anti-drug hotline has also been created, which family members can call to request help anonymously. By dialing 103, they receive advice and strategies to support their loved ones struggling with addiction.
Raising awareness among young people about the consequences of drug use is essential for moving toward a country free of this scourge. Cuba maintains a zero-tolerance stance toward drugs, prioritizing the well-being of adolescents and young people and promoting their health and development.
