Parliament of Zimbabwe reiterates support for Cuba against United States blockade

Harare, Oct. 7 – Webster Kotiwani Shamu, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee and head of the Zimbabwe-Cuba Friendship Group in Parliament, today reiterated support for Cuba’s fight against the U.S. blockade.

In a cordial meeting with Ambassador Susellys Pérez Mesa, Shamu reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s stance demanding an end to more than 60 years of hostile U.S. policy aimed at strangling the Cuban people through economic, commercial, and financial siege.

During the discussion, the legislative leader and the Head of Mission exchanged views on various parliamentary and communication initiatives to support the battle to lift the U.S. blockade.

The Ambassador highlighted the expressions of solidarity shown during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, including mutual support against the blockade and unilateral coercive measures expressed by Foreign Ministers Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla of Cuba and Amon Murwira of Zimbabwe.

Pérez Mesa and Shamu emphasized their mutual willingness to undertake actions to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly between both legislatures.

In the presence of Minister Counselor Luis Enrique González Acosta and Second Secretary Zailin Gaulhiac Moráguez, both parties discussed existing agreements between the two countries and prospects for cooperation in new areas. (Text and photo: PL)
