Camagüey, Oct 13. - Convinced that sugarcane fields and sugar mills represent identity, culture, and tradition in Cuba, the people of Camagüey held the provincial event for Sugar Sector Workers' Day.
The Siboney Agroindustrial Company brought together a representation of the guild to honor the men and women who dedicate their lives to a task so noble and necessary for economic development.
Yosvany Chávez Lima, general secretary of the Provincial Sugar Bureau, stated that it is essential to remember the example of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, who always shared moments with the humble, operated a combine harvester, cut sugarcane shoulder to shoulder, and demonstrated a special affection for the sector's workers.
It is necessary to highlight the daily feats where the main protagonists are the workers of this guild, as evidenced by this company which, after a year of inactivity in its industry, carried out an efficient campaign for the production of molasses, overfulfilled its sugarcane planting plan with its productive units, and took on the immense responsibility of repairing the sugar mill in 60 days. He emphasized that from this site, the 2025-2026 Camagüey sugar harvest will begin.
During the event, the Jesús Suárez Gayol Distinction was awarded to 16 workers representing the 117 honorees from the province.
One of them was Daniela Leyva, a worker from the UBPC La Araucana, who told the Cuban News Agency that this medal is a recognition of more than 35 years of dedicated work and that she will continue working because she feels pride and commitment.
On this occasion, and for their outstanding results, the Condition of National Vanguard Collective was awarded to the Azumat Camagüey Branch, the Livestock Production Agency, the EsAzúcar Services Company, the Specialized Azutecnia Workshop, and the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production El Entronque.
Every harvest and every sleepless night of the sugarcane workers demonstrates their dedication to fulfilling their tasks, sure that the path is not easy, but they have commitment and will go to the next contest under the whistle of the locomotives and the smoke from the tower. (Source: ACN)
