Restoring Camagüey's pride: Towards a cleaner and more beautiful city

The city of Camagüey, long recognized as one of the cleanest and most beautiful cities in the country, now faces an alarming challenge: the proliferation of dumps in various strategic locations. These accumulations of waste not only pose a risk to the health of its inhabitants but also detract from the environment we all wish to preserve.

From Plaza Méndez to the Villa Mariana water tank, a very worrying scene can be observed on the road. The unsanitary conditions impact essential places such as the Family Doctor's Office and daycare centers. These sources of pollution not only affect public health, but also minimize the efforts made to maintain the hygiene of the city.

It is disconcerting that the bridge leading to Plaza Méndez, a key point in Camagüey's traffic, is the scene of acts that further deteriorate our streets. It is disheartening to witness people, including senior citizens, carelessly throwing trash into the river, thus contributing to environmental degradation. This situation should lead us all, regardless of age, to reflect on our responsibility in caring for the environment.

Awareness and education are essential tools in this fight. Landfills have not grown solely due to the lack of waste collection by Community Services; social indiscipline, lack of supervision, community disinterest, and the absence of a clear call to citizens to transform our environment play a crucial role.

Avoiding leaving garbage bags on street corners and near containers is a first step toward a solution.

We are facing a worrying epidemiological situation, exacerbated by the proliferation of the mosquito that transmits diseases such as chikungunya.

To eradicate these garbage dumps that tarnish Camagüey's image, it is urgent to intensify preventative measures, encourage community reporting, and apply drastic measures against those who violate urban hygiene regulations.

It is essential to remember that "a clean street does NOT depend on the cleaning service, but on the education of its residents." Each of us has the power and the obligation to contribute to restoring the pride of living in a clean and beautiful city. Camagüey's transformation begins with small changes in our daily behavior, with a deep respect for our home.

We invite all residents to join this collective effort. Reversing the current situation is not only a duty, but an act of love for the land of our birth. Together we can restore the splendor of our city, making Camagüey a place where beauty and cleanliness are the protagonists of every corner.
