Caracas, December 9 - The Peoples' Assembly for Peace and Sovereignty of Our America begins today in Venezuela with the goal of building a global movement for peace with sovereignty.
This three-day meeting was convened by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on October 31 during the closing of the Greater Caribbean Parliamentary Meeting, which was held here with representatives from 14 countries, and brings together international delegates from all five continents.
Social leaders, intellectuals, artists, jurists, academics, parliamentarians, communicators, women, youth, political parties, workers, indigenous peoples and other movements arrived in Caracas to reaffirm the global commitment to a just peace that respects the sovereignty of peoples.
Likewise, to promote an international movement that defends truth, justice, and respect for international law; to strengthen continental unity and solidarity-based cooperation among Latin America, the Caribbean, and the peoples of the world, in dialogue with the Global South and its integration platforms.
Furthermore, to consolidate this capital as the political, moral, and spiritual epicenter of the struggles of the world's peoples and movements for peace with sovereignty and to proclaim the "Caracas Manifesto for the Peace, Sovereignty, and Truth of the Peoples."
According to the document accessed by Prensa Latina, the meeting will have nine central axes linked to Bolivarian Peace: International law, sovereignty, and security for peoples; and the dispute between Bolivarianism vs. Monroism.
It will also address economic war and political extortion: Unilateral coercive measures, punitive tariffs, and financial suffocation against peoples; voices of the new world against the cognitive war: Truth as a territory of global dispute; and defense of migrants' rights vs. supremacism, xenophobia, and other expressions of hate.
Other axes will deal with the defense of Mother Earth in the face of the climate emergency; the union of the peoples of the Global South: New world order vs. imperialism and neofascism; and the Brilliant Generation vs. the label of "Generation Z": Youth, sovereignty, and a shared future.
And finally, the militarization and neocolonization of the Caribbean and Our America: "Geopolitical pretext versus regional sovereignty."
According to the document, with the Peoples' Assembly for Peace and the Sovereignty of Our America, the aim is the "birth of an international movement of peoples, ideas, and wills" that proclaims to the world that another order is possible, and that peace, with sovereignty and justice, is its banner.
When closing the Parliamentary Meeting, Maduro stated that this event will be to say, we want peace and respect for Venezuela, Colombia, and the peoples of the Caribbean, in a call for the union of our forces and peoples to tell the warmongers: no to war and military threat, we want peace.
