Trump announces 25 percent tariff on "any country that does business" with Iran

USA, Jan 14 - U.S. President Donald Trump warned on Monday via his Truth Social account that "any country that does business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a 25 percent tariff on all business" it conducts with the U.S. According to Trump, the order on this matter is definitive and takes effect immediately, amid protests shaking the Persian nation.

As explained earlier by White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, the president does not rule out ordering airstrikes against the Persian nation, calling it "one of many options on the table for the commander in chief." Trump threatened to intervene if protesters deaths occurred.

Meanwhile, several senior U.S. Administration officials, led by Vice President J.D. Vance, are pushing to try the diplomatic option first, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Tehran accused the U.S. and Israel of organizing the recent unrest in some cities of the Persian nation, something confirmed by numerous documents, according to the Foreign Ministry. At the same time, many Iranians took to the streets in support of the current government and against crimes sponsored from abroad.

Iran's nuclear or missile programs are not mentioned in the context of the latest tensions. Media outlets point to the eldest son of the last Iranian Shah, Reza Pahlavi, who has resided in the West for decades, as one of the key supporters of the latest wave of street protests in Iran.
