Havana, Jan 16. - The 23rd edition of the Santiago Álvarez in Memoriam International Documentary Festival is today outlining details for its start on March 5 in Santiago de Cuba and at the Havana sub-venue.
Dedicated to the cinema of Vietnam, the event this year registered 151 works for competition, of which 135 are documentaries, 11 are projects, and 6 are photojournalism proposals.
According to the festival's official website, the choice of the guest country of honor coincides with the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day, proclaimed on September 2, 1945, when H? Chí Minh read the Declaration of Independence.
Until March 11, both provinces will offer the public a cultural program whose primary objectives include appreciating and reflecting on documentary cinema.
The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic) and the Provincial Directorate of Culture of Santiago de Cuba invite documentary filmmakers from all regions of the world to participate in this new edition. (Text and Photo: Cubasí)
