Ramallah, Jan 27. - The President of the Palestinian National Council, Rouhi Fattouh, denounced the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip today as a result of more than two years of Israeli aggression and called for an end to the attacks.
The world must assume its legal, political, and moral responsibilities to stop Israeli violations against the occupied territories, the politician stated while addressing the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Manama, Bahrain.
Cited by the official Palestinian news agency, the leader urged the international community to pressure that country to force it to withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip after two years of continuous aggression.
Fattouh denounced "all forms of attacks and collective punishments against the Palestinian people."
The sufferings of our compatriots, especially in the Strip, constitute a political crime, he stated, condemning the continuous murders, destruction, siege, and systematic attacks against civilians and infrastructure.
He also rejected the escalation of incursions into the occupied West Bank and the Jewish colonization of that territory, which, he said, represents a flagrant violation of international law.
In this regard, he estimated that the crisis in Gaza is the direct result of the Israeli occupation and the absence of serious international pressure on the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
Regarding the creation of a committee of Palestinian technocrats to govern the Strip in place of Hamas, Fattouh affirmed that it is a temporary measure as part of efforts to “improve living conditions and facilitate the provision of basic services.”
It in no way constitutes an alternative to the Palestinian National Authority or the role of its leadership, he emphasized.
Gaza is an integral part of the land of the State of Palestine; therefore, any administrative or humanitarian agreement there must be consistent with this unity, he stated. (Text and photo: PL)
