India: President of ICAP will speak with university students and friends of Cuba

New Delhi, Nov 5.- The president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, will speak here today with young university students and the main organizers of the Committee of Solidarity with Cuba of India.

The day before, in his first activity in the South Asian nation, González held a meeting with a group of leftist leaders, mostly from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the state of Kerala, among them MA Baby and Amra Ram, member of the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament), as well as ND Gupta, member of the Upper House of Legislature for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

According to diplomatic sources, among the main topics was the possibility of creating youth brigades of solidarity with the Caribbean nation and deepening dialogue to make cooperation between Cuba and Kerala viable in various sectors.

On Tuesday, González will exchange with students from the University of Delhi and Jamia Milia Islamia on visits to both higher education centers.

Later, at night, he will meet with representatives of the Solidarity Committee with Cuba.

The president of ICAP began a visit to India the day before, whose people have always supported the Caribbean nation in its fight to defend democracy from the imperialist threats of the United States.

In this regard, Tapan Sen, general secretary of the Central Indian Trade Unions (CITU), told Prensa Latina that the island's anti-imperialist stance motivates and inspires those who still fight for their rights in various parts of the world.

On the other hand, Hemlata Soni, president of CITU, confirmed to this agency the willingness of the left to continue its solidarity with Cuba and to mobilize a greater number of workers for that cause.

We are determined to provide everything necessary, to the extent that we can help the people of Cuba in this hour of difficulties, and reiterated his organization's condemnation of the cruel and inhuman blockade of the United States against the Caribbean nation.

Cuba, a socialist country that works for the poor, the common people, protecting their rights and basic needs, is being subjugated by the United States and it is precisely because the people have chosen a socialist system, he noted.

He added that Washington wants to crush the socialist system and impose radical change, but has encountered resistance from Cubans.

The union leader stressed that Cuba's survival is linked to the struggle of the world working class against the neoliberal policies promoted by the United States and financial institutions to protect the profits of large corporations and exploit the people and their natural resources.
