Sibanicú celebrates the start of the school year dedicated to Fidel Castro's centennial (+ Photos)


Sibanicú, Camagüey, September 1.-Today, Sibanicú was filled with joy and color, with thousands of children and young people returning to their classrooms, carrying with them the hope of a better future. This special moment reflects the confidence that a better world is possible and the conviction that being cultured is in order to be free. Thus begins a new school year throughout Cuba, full of expectations and commitment to education.

The provincial ceremony to kick off the 2025-2026 school year was held at the Rescate de Sanguily School and was presided over by Walter Simón Noris, First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba; Yennis León Mayedo, Vice Governor of Camagüey; Ana Marys Pérez Aquino, member of the Municipal Party Bureau in Sibanicú; Yadira Fernández Rivero, President of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power in Sibanicú; and Heiner Lian Carvajo Baxter, First Secretary of the Union of Young Communists in the region.

Also present were Loreley Suárez Capdevila, Director General of Education in Camagüey, and Yosveisy Acosta Arias, Director General of Education in the municipality. Liandy Pérez Grillo, a pioneer from the Rescate de Sanguily Elementary School, expressed the commitment of an entire generation beginning their academic activities motivated by the legacy of the centennial of the birth of Fidel Castro Ruz, an eternal teacher and architect of inclusive, dignified, and transformative education.

During the event, awards were presented to the pioneers who participated in the National Competition "Better without Plastic," for the benefit of our ecosystems. Pioneer Linet Medina Santiesteban, from Antonio Guiteras Junior High School, won first place in poetry, while pioneer Isnel García Quiroz, a fourth-grade student from the Rescate de Sanguily Elementary School, received a mention in drawing. In addition, families, entities, and teachers were recognized for their dedication and vocation, contributing to the successful start of the school year by supporting educational work and strengthening the educational community's preparation for this year.

The central words of the event were by Walter Simón Noris, who stressed that "knowledge is the key that opens doors, the bridge to dignity and progress" and expressed his confidence in the new generations, who represent the hope of Cuba.

In this context it was pointed out that schools open their doors with the certainty that students will succeed in their learning.

This school calendar is dedicated to the Commander-in-Chief, in recognition of his teaching legacy and his example of struggle and dedication. Each class and activity will be a constant tribute to his memory, inspiring children, youth, and adolescents to follow in his footsteps.
