University of Camagüey and Seville promote joint research on aging and heritage

Camagüey, September 2 – The University of Camagüey (UC) consolidates its international presence today following the success of academic cooperation initiatives, such as the recent one on aging and heritage developed jointly with the University of Seville (Spain).

This project, completed in August 2025, reflects the commitment of the UC International Relations Department to strengthening global ties that positively impact the institution's scientific and social agenda.

The course, focused on the diagnosis and characterization of equipment for older adults in the historic center of Camagüey, allowed a fruitful exchange between students and professors from both universities.

The Spanish participants donated measuring equipment and collaborated on studies that will serve as the basis for future research by the City Historian's Office, demonstrating how binational cooperation drives local development.

As a tangible result of this collaboration, the construction of the first Day Care Center for Alzheimer's patients in Cuba is planned, an achievement that underscores the strategic value of these exchanges.

The UC, in partnership with Spanish institutions, continues this year with similar programs that address global challenges such as public health, heritage preservation, and technological innovation, aligned with the objectives of Cuba's National Economic and Social Development Plan.

The closing of the course was attended by the Rector Julio Madera Quintana, D.Sc. and the Cuban coordinator Marisabel Almeida Torrens, D.Sc. who highlighted the organization, teamwork, and human impact of this initiative.

Students from Seville highlighted the welcome and cultural enrichment experienced during 45 days in Camagüey, strengthening the ties between both nations.
