Camagüey, Oct 21. - The Saga of a Victory is a work by the late Camagüey’s journalist and writer Jorge Luis Betancourt Herrera, which compiles in a single volume how Hubert Matos plotted his betrayal of the Revolution.
This book, by a colleague who worked for many years at the Adelante newspaper, is a reconstruction of the events that culminated in an important ideological victory for the people of Camagüey, led by Fidel and Camilo, on a day like today, October 21, in what has come to be known as the first march of victory.
Every year, the people of Camagüey organize a march that, starting from different points in the city and setting off from San Pablo and Manuel de Quesada streets (Cuerno Alley), culminates at the Ignacio Agramonte school city, which was transformed from a Batista army stronghold into a school.
The volume presents to younger generations the history of that beautiful victory, which also revealed other elements considered indispensable.
In Camilo's own handwriting, the archives hold a quote from Camilo Cienfuegos: "Through the Adelante newspaper, it is we who say thank you, thank you, people of Camagüey. Your presence at the Agramonte camp helped to resolve a betrayal of the Homeland. There may be traitorous men, but not traitorous peoples, and even less so the people of Camagüey."
