Russia, Jan 24.- Representatives of Russia, the United States, and Ukraine are meeting this Friday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in what constitutes the first tripartite meeting since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine. The meeting, considered unprecedented, aims to open a direct communication channel between Moscow and Kyiv with Washington's mediation.

The start of the negotiations was confirmed by the Foreign Minister of the host country, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. “The talks began today in Abu Dhabi and are scheduled to continue for two days, as part of ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and identify political solutions to the crisis,” his statement notes.

The Russian delegation is headed by Igor Kostyukov, chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (GRU). The Kremlin previously declared that only military personnel would participate in the Russian delegation.

“They are military personnel; they are representatives of the Ministry of Defense. For now, we are not going to give their names. They are all military,” stated presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

On the part of the U.S., in addition to the special envoy of the U.S. president, Steve Witkoff, and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, the Secretary of the Army, Dan Driscoll, is participating.

The Ukrainian side is composed of the new head of Zelensky's Office, Kirilo Budanov; his deputy, Sergiy Kyslytsya; the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Anatoliy Hnatov; the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov; and the leader of the parliamentary faction of the Ukrainian governing party Servant of the People, David Arakhamia.

Likewise, a meeting of the group on bilateral economic affairs will be held in the Emirati capital, in which Witkoff and the special envoy of the Russian Presidency and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, will participate. (Text and Photo: Cubadebate)
