Havana, May 2.- The denounce of the blockade imposed unilaterally by the United States against Cuba is currently our main struggle, the General Secretary of the Central Workers' Union (CTC), Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento ratified today.
The siege 'causes deprivation to the Cuban people and hinders our development,' said Guilarte de Nacimiento during the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, at the Havana Convention Center.
'Despite the challenges for the advancement of the economy under the complex financial conditions that persist, we made steady progress in updating our economic and social model,' stressed the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba.
The union leader also confirmed the need to demand the return of the territory occupied by a US naval base in the eastern province of Guantanamo.
Likewise, he reaffirmed the support 'to the fair struggles in the world for the respect of labor and social rights to fight reforms that ignore the demands reached by our unions.'
In this context, he showed support to countries such as Brazil, Syria and Nicaragua; and to causes such as that of the Palestinian and Saharawi peoples.
Similarly, he addressed the current situation in Venezuela, which he described as 'a trench in which they also fight for full Latin American and Caribbean emancipation.'
From our trade union organization we will raise the voice to the permanent call for mobilizing of the leftist forces and the integrationist processes of the region, for the benefit of inclusive social policies, added the lawmaker to the National Assembly of Popular Power.
The worker leader also highlighted the need to advance in the construction of a more fair society, in which 'those who were historically excluded have voice, hope and dignity'.
'It is not only today a legitimate aspiration, it becomes an urgent need that requires, as never before, the will and the revolutionary commitment of all fighters for a better world,' he pointed out.
The International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, in which over a thousand union activists from all over the world participate, will conclude in the evening hours. (Prensa Latina)
