Pardo Guerra in Camagüey: Protecting the people is priority (+ photos)


Camagüey, Jun 13.- Major General Ramón Pardo Guerra, head of the National Defense General Staff, noted in the popular council Cándido González, of Santa Cruz del Sur, the recovery actions after the intense rains and floods of recent days, and received detailed information on the damage caused by that event.

Miriadis López Álvarez, intendant in the southern territory, explained that between 6 and 10 June there were 467.1 millimeters of rainfall, so in that community 971 people were protected, and in the municipality amounted to one thousand 084; while illustrating that in some localities the water reached three meters high.

As part of the recovery actions detailed that the sale of processed food is maintained, cleaning is intensified with the incorporation of various means and the processing offices have identified 33 affected homes, most of them classify as partial collapses.

In that community, one of the most impacted in the province by the hydrometeorological situation, Pardo Guerra called for drawing experiences and updating disaster risk reduction plans in the face of what happened in recent days, to increase preparedness and prevention, pillars of civil defense in Cuba.

He insisted on constant sanitary surveillance, water quality testing and the dispensing of 1% sodium hypochlorite to avoid diseases that can appear after this type of natural phenomena.

Just after almost the first fortnight since the beginning of the cyclonic season, the Major General called to be prepared and to increase the perception of risk in the population, because the only thing that cannot be replaced is human life, he reflected.

Governor Jorge Enrique Sutil Sarabia ratified the attention to all people, with priority for those who are in a vulnerable situation and who suffered damage, which in the aforementioned demarcation number 61 inhabitants.

In that sense Federico Hernández Hernández, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and its first secretary in the province announced that they will be the first to benefit from the resources allocated for recovery, specifically at this initial moment mattresses, using the procedure established for each case in a timely manner.

He reiterated the principle of caring for all victims, but prioritized the most humble, urged that what is done be better than it was, including the revival of services visible in the village, and called for active participation in those tasks.

At the end of the assessment of the effects on the community of Cándido González, in Santa Cruz del Sur, Major General Ramón Pardo Guerra, head of the National Staff of Civil Defense, recognized the discipline of the people in the face of phenomena such as this, and reiterated that the protection of people will always be the priority, as conceived by the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
