How to take care of your cell phone in the summer?

By Yurisander Guevara / Taken from Juventud Rebelde.

Although computers, in their desktop or portable format, are widely used, there is other technological equipment that currently steals the show and is everywhere: cell phones. And although to a lesser extent, the number of tablets on the market is also large.

In the previous installment of this section we presented tips to take care of computers in the midst of the sweltering summer heat. This time we approach mobile phones and tablets, so that you extend their useful life.

Protect your battery

One of the fundamental components of any mobile device is the battery, whose capacity is vital to power the equipment.

Currently, the majority of the terminals have lithium-ion batteries, so, according to specialized technology media, it is important not to overload them.

There is a widespread custom among users of leaving the cell phone charging all night so that it performs more during the day, a habit incorporated since the era in which batteries had "memory."

This is an effect present in lead or nickel cadmium batteries, where internally some crystals are created by a chemical reaction when the battery heats up due to use or bad charges. As a result of the process, the batteries lose power.

On the other hand, lithium-ion batteries do not need to be recharged one hundred percent, since they perform at low voltages. In fact, ideally, they should be around 40 to 50 percent, standard values ??that terminals generally have when we turn them on for the first time. It is also not good that they are completely discharged.

The Spanish publication Hipertextual affirms that it is not necessary to give initial charges of eight hours. «In many telephone stores they continue to recommend that the first charge of the terminal be about eight hours or more. That was true with the old batteries. With lithium batteries, that's completely unnecessary. The first time we charge the device (and subsequent ones); it is enough to disconnect the charger when it has reached one hundred percent, whether it has been done in 30 minutes or six hours, “explains this website.

Thus, partial loads will be the best option. That is, it is more advisable to charge the phone several times a day, for short periods, than once, keeping it between 20 and 80 percent.

A very useful trick to extend battery life is to disable everything that is not used, such as Bluetooth connections, Wi-Fi, or data plan.

Likewise, it recommends the Xataka website, something that consumes a lot of battery is the memory or the processor of the phone. This means that when it is "thinking" (processing applications), it consumes more power.

In that sense, it is suggested to close all the applications that are not used. Otherwise, multitasking runs processes in the background and consumes more battery power.

Another important aspect is the chargers. The manufacturers indicate that pirated or unofficial chargers are not used. Among other things, these types of power connectors are made with cheap materials, and we already know that cheap is expensive.

To this is added that, if the official charger of the terminal is five volts and two amps, for example, and we use one with different values, the battery will charge improperly. In the long run, this practice shortens their life cycle.

Armor is needed

The Nokia Company became famous for making unbreakable cell phones. During their heyday, in the past decade, the owners of these terminals boasted that if the mobile fell to the ground, it would break into pieces, but it would survive.

With the advent of the Smartphone era, all this changed. Currently, a Smartphone falling to the ground can be a "misfortune", especially if it is Apple's terminals, made of glass and aluminum.

Perhaps the reader will already know what the next tip is: use a casing. Perhaps it can be argued that with these covers you cannot enjoy the design of the terminal, but we should not then get depressed when it shatters on the floor.

Using a case goes beyond an aesthetic issue. This ensures that the phone suffers less internal damage from drops or other issues, such as water splashes (or toilet plunges, which is common), scratches and dents.

And if we are going to be meticulous, a lens is also recommended, as it adds additional armor to the fragile screen.

Heat, public enemy number one

Faced with a rise in temperature, the phone's battery can lose capacity, sometimes up to 80 percent, according to Xataka. Something similar happens in very low temperatures, which in Cuba we almost never enjoy.

In any case, both in hot and cold weather, the cell phone or tablet should not be left out in the open for a long time. If you own a vehicle, try not to leave it inside in broad daylight, as the "sauna" generated by being closed is deadly for your phone in the long run.

In addition to damaging the battery, high temperatures can affect other internal components and the touch screen.

What your mobile needs

1-The cell phone does not need to be turned off. Closing unused apps is more than enough. In the case of Android, a weekly reboot is fine so that it refreshes the operating system.

2-Clean the cell phone to remove germs and bacteria, but do not use water or any liquid directly on it. Use a piece of microfiber cloth, such as the one used to sanitize glasses, and moisten it with a few drops of water mixed with vinegar or alcohol.

3-Avoid exposing it for prolonged periods to the sun. Especially do not play, because the temperature will increase drastically in the terminal and this can reduce the performance of the battery. (Photos: Microsoft Bing Image Creator)
