Havana, Aug 23.- The XV edition of the International Meeting of Poets in Ecuador Poetry in Zero Parallel announced the decision to award the Poet of Two Hemispheres 2023 award to the Cuban troubadour Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez.
As announced by the artist on his Facebook page (El zurrón del aprendiz), the festival's directors will deliver the ceremony in Havana in October, together with a delegation of Hispanic-American poets and writers who will participate in readings in tribute to the singer-songwriter
On the occasion, which will also serve to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Paralelo Cero, the book "Letras de Silvio" will be presented, a personal anthology published in the Monsters collection.
The Poet of Two Hemispheres award has previously been awarded to essential voices such as Juan Gelman from Argentina, Luis Eduardo Aute and Antonio Gamoneda from Spain, and Margaret Randall from the United States.
Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez (1946) is the founder of the Nueva Trova Movement and one of its greatest exponents.
In 1970 he was one of the founders of the Sound Experimentation Group of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC).
Possessor of a wide discography, he has composed music and lyrics for more than 800 songs and musicalized films, videos and TV series.
His songs have been translated into French, Italian, German, English, Portuguese, Guarani, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Swedish, and Catalan.
He has been awarded important decorations in Cuba and abroad, and since 1997 he has been a UNESCO Artist for Peace. (Text: ACN) (Photo: File)
