Camagüey, October 10.- The Minister of Public Health of Cuba, José Angel Portal Miranda, and the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, General of the Army Corps Álvaro López Miera visited this Monday the Military Industrial Company Mechanical Plant Major General Ignacio Agramonte, from Camagüey, where more than a year ago the manufacturing of partial hip prostheses began in Cuba.

During the tour they learned about the development of production, an endeavor for which capacity continues to be created in the center, Portal Miranda reported on its Facebook page.

The above is part of a project developed at the Fructuoso Rodríguez Teaching Orthopedic Hospital in Havana, which has enabled some 250 hip operations since the National Regulatory Authority granted the Exceptional Use Authorization for that product, in November 2022.

“The joint work and talent of specialists with various knowledges have made possible the development of this article, for the preparation of which multiple innovations had to be implemented, both in terms of equipment and materials,” stated Portal Miranda.

He also mentioned that the patients implanted so far show a favorable evolution, although there is still much to do in an issue of high sensitivity for the population, especially for older adults.

When exchanging with the workers of the province, the ministers were accompanied by the general director of the Military Industry Union, Brigadier General Israel Cervantes Tablada; Doctor of Sciences Roberto Balmaseda Manet, main manager of the project; as well as engineers and technicians who bring this idea to life, and managers of the National Health System.
