United Nations, Oct. 25.- The first vice minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Gerardo Peñalver, met with the president of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, to discuss topics of interest on the common agenda.
In a message published in his account on social network X, the also Cuban permanent representative described as cordial the meeting that he thanked in the midst of the tense program of the multilateral forum. For his part, Francis recalled that the meeting is held a week before the annual debate dedicated to the resolution on the Necessity of ending the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States against Cuba.
The project, disclosed the previous week, will be put up for consideration by the 78th United Nations General Assembly on November 1 and 2.
When presenting the document at a press conference in Havana, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez described this unilateral siege as genocidal, and denounced the losses it causes to the island, which exceed one billion dollars.
He explained that the damages caused by the measure represent an impact of more than 405 million per month, which implies one million dollars every two hours.
According to estimates, he explained, the Gross Domestic Product of the Caribbean nation could have grown by around 9.0 percent in 2022, if it had not been for US policy.
If we calculate the damages caused by the blockade in these 60 years, based on the value of gold, they reach one trillion 337 billion dollars, immeasurable figures for any economy in the world, he said. (PL) (Photo: Archive)
