Hanoi, Oct 25.- A donation of 1,200 metric tons of rice from the Communist Party, the State and the people of Ho Chi Minh City is ready today at the port of Cat Lai to be shipped to Cuba.

It fills us with satisfaction to express that this donation keeps alive that feeling and solidarity that are unique, like the very special and brotherly ties that exist between our two countries, said the Consul General of Cuba in that metropolis of southern Vietnam, Ariadne Feo Labrada.

When thanking Ho Ci Minh City and the province of Binh Duong for the donation, the diplomat stressed that the support of the political and state authorities and the Vietnamese people towards their country has been permanent and unconditional.

She also recalled that historically the Communist Party, the Government and the Cuban people supported the heroic struggle of this Indochinese nation for its definitive liberation and reunification, as well as the reconstruction tasks of the country, devastated by decades of war.

In this sense, he highlighted that among the results of the first visit of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to Vietnam in the middle of the war (September 1973) was the decision to donate five important infrastructure works to support its socioeconomic development.

The consul general in Ho Chi Minh City also referred to the recent interview offered by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in which he stated that Cuba is living under a situation of maximum tension, accentuated by the intensified economic, financial and commercial blockade of the USA.

Suffocating the economy, causing the collapse of the country and fracturing the unity between the country's leadership and the people are the purposes of this hostile policy, also manifested in constant financial persecution and a huge communications campaign of subversion, he noted.

Today we reaffirm that Cuba will not give up and will continue fighting for its self-determination under the leadership of the Communist Party, he concluded. (Text and photos: PL)
