Raúl and Díaz-Canel receive Russia’s Minister of Internal Affairs


Havana, Nov 23.- Army General Raúl Castro Ruz received the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Police General Vladimir A. Kolokoltsev, who has been visiting Cuba since last November 20.

During the exchange, the excellent state of relations and the high level of political dialogue between both countries was confirmed and the willingness to continue expanding bilateral relations was agreed.

Raúl was accompanied by the member of the Political Bureau and Minister of the Interior, Division General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas and Colonel Rebeca Fernández Otero, Head of the Directorate of International Relations of the Ministry of the Interior. Also present for the visiting delegation were the ambassador of the Russian Federation in Cuba, Víctor Koronelli, and Major General of Internal Services Alexandr A. Nikolaev, Head of the Minister's Secretariat.

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, also received the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation at the Palace of the Revolution.

This visit, Díaz-Canel said when greeting him, helps strengthen the ties of friendship between Cuba and the Russian Federation. It marks a trend we have of strengthening, consolidating and expanding our relations at the current time, said the president.

There is a historical legacy between our nations and people, reflected the Head of State, which was formed since the era of the Soviet Union, in particular due to all the intention and commitment that Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and General de Raúl Castro Ruz Army. They always had a look towards the former USSR and towards Russia, the president noted.

There is a relationship, not only of governments, but also a relationship of peoples. Those of us who are present here, he pointed out, referring to the delegation that accompanied him at the meeting, are from a generation that grew up in the heat of that relationship between Cuba and Russia.

The member of the Political Bureau and Minister of Internal Affairs of Cuba, Major General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, and other senior military leaders of the Caribbean island participated in this meeting.
