Representative of the European Union for human rights visits Cuba


Havana, Nov 23.- Eamon Gilmore, Special Representative of the European Union (EU) for Human Rights (HR), today began a two-day visit to Cuba, in which he will hold meetings with government representatives and the civil society.

This was highlighted by the senior official of the European bloc in a message on the social network

As part of his work program in Havana, Gilmore was received at the National Capitol by Ana María Mari Machado, vice president of the National Assembly of People's Power.

According to information from Parliament on the same social network, the Special Representative for Human Rights, together with the delegation accompanying him, exchanged with deputies of the Cuban legislature.

The Cuba-EU Human Rights Dialogue will be held within the framework of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the parties, which was signed in 2016, ending the so-called Common Position (1996) through which the European bloc allied itself with the pressure from the US government.
