Holguín, Nov 27.- The scheduled maintenance of the turbo group one of the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Plant, in Felton, in the Holguín municipality of Mayarí, currently concentrates its actions on washing the boiler, the fundamental reason for the exit from the National Electric System (SEN).
The main objectives of the work are to return the unit's availability to 240 megawatts (MW) after 213 days and 15 hours of continuous generation, considered an operating record for a thermal block in Cuba.
Roger González Guzmán, production director in that industry, told journalist Emilio Rodríguez, from the Radio Mayarí station, that after more than nine months since the last wash, it was urgent to carry out a cleaning taking into account the dirt caused by ashes and carbon. derived from combustion.
The manager explained that after completing this procedure, a complete inspection will be carried out capable of determining if it is necessary to change some fragments of tubes, known as mochetas, that are deviated from parameters.
Later, he commented, they will carry out the hydraulic test, which, after the slagging process, will allow us to know the state of the pipes that make up the convective axis of the furnace.
Simultaneously, they are working on correcting the limitations of the output transformer, as well as cleaning the condenser, aimed at achieving greater efficiency in the turbine and reducing fuel consumption to produce the same amount of electricity, he emphasized.
González Guzmán highlighted that on this occasion, taking into account the stability of the temperature and vibration parameters of the bearings, it has not been necessary to carry out work on the turbine.
The maintenance meets the schedule planned for 13 days, although the specialist acknowledged that there is a slight delay of eight hours, which can be recovered, caused by rains that affected the town and it is expected that on December 3, the machine will be able to begin the maintenance process. start.
Currently in that industry, the dismantling of the boiler in block two is being carried out, included in the rehabilitation to which it is undergoing, damaged by a fire in July 2022, when it was estimated to incorporate around 220 MW to the SEN.
As part of the work, in recent days, the boiler dome was lowered, a device located in the upper area of ??that structure, more than 30 meters high and with a weight that exceeds 127 tons, whose function is to feed water the tubes for its operation and, in turn, supply the steam needed by the turbine.
The operation, carried out for the first time in the country, required about three hours to complete, had foreign advice, special lifting equipment and marks a milestone in the management of large structures in Cuba. (Text and photo: ACN)
