Miami, Jan 3.- Panam Sports informs the public that its executive committee has unanimously decided to withdraw Barranquilla, Colombia, as the host city of the XX Pan American Games.
The resolution was made after several breaches of the host city's contract.
It should be noted that on October 19, in a meeting in Santiago de Chile, after receiving a letter from the Colombian authorities dated October 25, Barranquilla requested an extension of the deadline to fulfill the contract.
The proposal was accepted by Panam Sports, which set new deadlines on December 30, 2023 and January 30, 2024.
However, as the new deadline passed without a response, on January 3, 2024, the Executive Committee of Panam Sports has made the unwavering decision to take away the rights to be the host city of the continental games in 2027.
Panam Sports deeply regrets this situation, but has made this decision thinking about the future of the largest multisport event in America and the continent's athletes. (Jit) (Photo: Panam Sports)
