Cuba pays tribute to Celia Sánchez Manduley

Havana, Jan 11.- The permanent tribute to the most native flower of the Revolution, Celia Sánchez Manduley, who cared for and embellished like few others, the history and legacy of Fidel Castro, from the days in the Sierra Maestra, as the first guerrilla of the Rebel Army, declared today Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic.

Through his account on social network X (formerly Twitter), the president recalled the legacy of the revolutionary fighter, politician and researcher 44 years after her physical departure. On the occasion of this date, Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, described Celia as an extraordinary woman.

In his message, the head of Parliament recalled the words of the intellectual Armando Hart when he said: “Celia was and will always be (...) the most intimate and beloved fiber of the Revolution; the most endearing of our sisters. She is the most indigenous flower of the Revolution.”

A flower for our Celia on the 44th anniversary of her death; sensitive woman, full of kindness and humanism, loyal to Fidel and the Homeland, expressed Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of Cuba, on the same social network.

Kindness, simplicity, firmness and loyalty were the qualities with which Inés María Chpaman, Cuban vice prime minister, valued the figure of Sánchez Manduley, to whom she expressed the gratitude of all the people.

Celia Sánchez Manduley (1920 - 1980) was a member of the July 26 Movement where she organized the clandestine network of peasants, vital for the survival of the guerrilla that landed in the south of Oriente on December 2, 1956 and that would later become the Army Rebel.

Throughout her life she carried out important missions in supplying the guerrilla until she became a direct combatant, she fought in El Uvero and was the first woman to occupy the position of soldier in the ranks of the Rebel Army.

After the triumph of 1959, she assumed important tasks and responsibilities as secretary of the Council of State, deputy to Parliament, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and of the National Directorate of the Federation of Cuban Women. (ACN) (Photo: @DiazCanelB)
