Maray Pons, communications specialist, told ACN about the entity's participation in more than 600 projects linked to national and sectoral programs of social impact, among which the generalization of natural and traditional medicine, medicines for cancer and AIDS, stand out. and ophthalmological products used in “Operation Miracle.”

He highlighted the contributions of CIDEM, with more than 500 drugs, to the configuration of the Basic Array of Medicines and scientific activity during these three decades, supported by twenty national awards from the Cuban Academy of Sciences and several for Technological Innovation and Specialties. of Relevance, awarded by CITMA, and articles published in high-level Cuban and foreign magazines.

In line with trends in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry, CIDEM, belonging to the BioCubaFarma business group, has five lines of research-development of innovative, generic, natural, health-related and diagnostic products, and its closed-loop operation favors the transfer of technologies to the industry.

Pons pointed out as an important element the alliances they maintain with the academic and business sector in Cuba and other nations, and exemplified the inauguration in 2018, together with the University of Havana, of the chemical and biomolecular synthesis laboratory, with the aim of promote the management of innovation projects in the area of ??medicines.

CIDEM entered the international market with the portfolio of natural products and seeks to awaken new commercial interests, thanks to business models based on cooperative productions, technology transfers and licensing of co-development of projects, among other modalities.

In the effort to expand its scope for the benefit of health and the Cuban economy, this company provides specialized services to entities in the country and in various latitudes such as oncological and toxicological research, experimental neuropharmacology and research and development of antimicrobials, he pointed out.
