Maritime operation for food distribution deployed in Cuba

Havana, February 21.- Cuba today guarantees the transfer of the regulated family basket through the deployment of cargo operations by sea to the provinces, authorities from the Ministry of Transportation (MITRANS) on the Caribbean island assured.

After the recent arrival at the port of Havana of a large ship with 30 thousand tons of rice, authorities in the sector deployed an operation to transport and distribute the demanded product to warehouses throughout the country.

According to a national television report, several national ministries were integrated to support transporters in the distribution of grain by sea and land.

The director of maritime and port management of MITRANS, Miguel Pineda López, highlighted the effort made in the capital's port to overcome the difficulties of the work amid unfavorable weather conditions in the west of the country.

After unloading part of its contents in this capital, the ship transits towards the port of Nuevitas in the eastern province of Camagüey, with about 11 thousand tons of food in its hold that will supply several provinces in that geographical area.

Pineda López assured that the transfer operation is replicated in other maritime ports in the country, as is the case of the eastern port of Santiago de Cuba where another 10 thousand tons are unloaded and distributed to this province and neighboring Guantánamo.

He explained that they have maritime vessels in the ports of Batabanó (west) and Cienfuegos (center) to transport the resource to the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud and the adjacent Cayo Largo del Sur.

The official announced that MITRANS specialists and directors are preparing operations for the unloading next month of ships that sail to the island with this food.

Cuba overcomes the difficulties of the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States to ensure the timely arrival and distribution of food to each Cuban home, the manager noted. (PL) (Photo: ACN/File)
