Care for the elderly in Camagüey

Camagüey, February 28.- The Program for the elderly, social assistance and mental health was the subject of a detailed analysis by the Government leadership in this municipality.

In the report presented by Dr. Michel Alfonso Figueroa, director of Public Health in Camagüey, it is stated that there are currently more than 88,500 elderly people.

Of that volume, nearly nine thousand live alone, of which 67 percent receive home care, a figure below what was expected but 140 more than those assisted in 2022.

At this time, the occupancy of places in Nursing Homes is below what was expected, which requires greater action to cover these capacities.

Lázaro Echevarría Rodríguez, mayor of the capital of Camagüey, called for a different look at these institutions to improve their functioning and thus raise the quality of life of the elderly. (Text and photo: Radio Camagüey)
