New Palestinian government faces major challenges from Israeli attack

Ramallah, Apr. 1st. - Stopping Israeli aggression against Gaza, increasing the volume of humanitarian aid for that territory and improving economic and financial conditions are today the priorities of the new Palestinian government.

Prime Minister Muhammad Mustafa along with his cabinet was sworn in the day before in a ceremony held in this city before President Mahmoud Abbas.

Since his appointment last month, Mustafa held a broad round of consultations with various national sectors to form the nineteenth Palestinian Government.

National media outlets indicated that another of the key points will be internal reforms, in the face of pressure from the United States and other Western powers.

Precisely, when outlining his work program, the 69-year-old former president of the Palestine Investment Fund referred to “comprehensive reforms, unification of institutions between the country's governorates, and maximizing humanitarian aid efforts to Gaza.”

He also addressed the reconstruction process of the coastal enclave after the end of the neighboring nation's war campaign, which includes the restoration of basic services such as education, health, water and electricity systems.

“Our political objective (…) continues to be to achieve freedom, independence and the end of the occupation,” he stressed.

The new cabinet is made up, among others, of Sharhabeel Youssef Saad Al-Din Al-Zaim, Minister of Justice, Ziad Mahmoud Muhammad Hab Al-Rih (Interior), Omar Akram Omran Al-Bitar (Finance) and Wael Muhammad Mahmoud Zaqout (Planning and International Cooperation).

They are joined by Majid Awni Muhammad Abu Ramadan (Health), Amjad Saad Suleiman Barham (Education and Higher Education), Enas Hosni Abdel-Ghani Dahadha (Labor) and Mohamed Youssef Mohamed Al-Amour (Economy). (Text and photo: PL)
