Camagüey, April 2.- With the mission of contributing through science to the sustainability of agricultural and livestock production in the central-eastern area of ??Cuba, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz guarantees the training of professionals in this field. sector.
They currently have more than 300 students divided into the majors of Agricultural Engineering, Veterinary Medicine and the Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Education, in the modalities of a regular day course and a meeting course, explained the master of sciences Yorkis Tamayo Escobar, dean of the faculty.
Regarding the faculty, he expressed that they have doctors of science and master's degrees, as well as a group of professionals who will begin the categorization process as instructors and assistant professors.
To achieve the insertion of students in the teaching and research field, the faculty works on 22 projects linked to food production and nutritional education, and three of an international nature.
Tamayo Escobar also reported that one of these latest initiatives is related to a multidisciplinary approach to control and manage marabou in the central-eastern part of the country, another is aimed at improving shrimp farming through transgenerational stimulation and the third seeks to enhance the cow's milk production through the introduction of a health management program in dairy herds in the province.
Regarding vocational training for careers related to agronomy, Ángel Oreste Lorenzo Sánchez, president of the University Student Federation at said faculty, explained that this organization plays a fundamental role in the entry of students to the university center and emphasized the need to explain in the exchange spaces the importance of these careers in the development of the economy and food of the province.
Agricultural sciences seek the establishment of new models in accordance with the needs of the country, with emphasis on work in the tropical world where climatic and socioeconomic conditions make it necessary to search for viable technological alternatives that include a rational and intelligent use of all resources. human, natural and financial of the territory.
