Camagüey, April 7.- The Tínima organoponic Base Business Unit (UEB), in the city of Camagüey, considered the largest of its kind in the country, was the headquarters of the national celebration for the 15 years since the creation of the Suburban Agriculture, with eternal gratitude and recognition to the person who promoted this initiative in Cuba, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz.

At the meeting, chaired by José Ramón Monteagudo Ruíz, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba; Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, vice prime minister of the Republic; and Ydael Pérez Brito, Minister of Agriculture; together with the highest authorities of the province, it was revealed that the Camagüey territory reached the status of outstanding within the movement that today exhibits results in the production of food, vegetables, condiments and fruits.

The provinces of Pinar del Río, Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila, Matanzas and Guantánamo were also encouraged for excelling in productive activities; while the sacrifice and unconditionality of producers from the last four regions mentioned, and from Artemisa, Mayabeque, Las Tunas, Granma and Camagüey, was highlighted.

Elizabeth Peña Turruella, deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power and national director of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture, praised the work carried out on more than 140 thousand farms in the country to achieve sustainability in obtaining food, many of them with a significant contribution to local and territorial self-sufficiency.

She emphasized that these results are still far from the aspirations of satisfying the demand of the population, in difficult times for the Cuban economy in which it is necessary to continue contributing more from each region.

The head of Agriculture, in the central words of the national event, highlighted the work carried out in some 156 municipalities, in which the provincial capitals of Camagüey and Matanzas stand out, examples in the search and identification of existing potentialities and in the delivery of lands for exploitation.

Pérez Brito congratulated the founders and exponents of the productive movement and urged them to increase efforts and achieve higher goals, based on the maximum use of the endogenous resources of each district. (Text and photo: Gleibis Gómez Durvas/ Radio Cadena Agramonte)
