Camagüey celebrates 155th anniversary of the Constitution of Guáimaro (+ Photos)


Camagüey, April 10.- The preservation of unity as one of the main legacies of the Constitution of Guáimaro was the essential exhortation of the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State , Esteban Lazo Hernández, at the end of the national ceremony for the 155 years of the proclamation of the country's first Magna Carta.

The highest representative of the legislative body also called to not forget history and assured that this anniversary invites us to promote the current battles of the Cuban people against an enemy that seeks to ignore the past and cause damage and fissures in the economic and ideological order.

During the celebration in the areas of the Mausoleum of Ana Betancourt de Mora, adjacent to the building where the constitutional text was signed, José Rodríguez Barreras, director of the Office of the Historian of the City of Camagüey, meant that it is not possible to understand the history of the nation without Guáimaro, a member of the best independence traditions.

The young generation, he said, has paradigms in history to build the Cuba we want, and in that sense he mentioned men of admirable qualities such as Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and Ignacio Agramonte, who preferred to put differences aside and put the necessary cause on a pedestal. of emancipation.

He described those events in Guáimaro as a crucial moment for the nation, in which the Cuban constitutionalist tradition began to be woven, and added that the current Law of Laws - approved five years ago today - is the fruit of the original one, from which independence and sovereignty of the country, have been common denominators.

Also present at the commemoration were the member of the Central Committee of the Party and its first secretary in Camagüey, Federico Hernández Hernández; Homero Acosta Álvarez, secretary of Parliament and the Council of State; Governor Jorge Enrique Sutil Sarabia; Doctor of Science Eduardo Torres Cuevas, director of the Martiano Program Office and president of the Academy of History of Cuba; and a representation of the Guaimaro people.
