Camagüey stands out for specialized care to mothers and children (+ Photos)


Camagüey, April 12.- The Maternal Home 23 de Agosto located near the Ana Betancourt de Mora Gynecobstetric University Hospital in Camagüey, contributes significantly to maternal and child health care, serving pregnant women throughout the district.

Patients come to this center when they present conditions associated with pregnancy or to prevent future complications.

With 16 beds available, there are currently 11 women admitted, there they are assured of timely medical surveillance that includes ultrasounds and constant monitoring of any risk.

The team, made up of four nurses and a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics, is responsible for administering the necessary treatments and care, adapted to the individual diagnosis of each patient, according to Rafael García Cabrera, director of the center.

Keren Yanet Guerra Vasconcelos, pregnant with twins and 21 weeks pregnant, will remain at the center until she gives birth and stated that her stay is beneficial, as it allows her to properly follow the instructions for rest, medication and consultations.

Beatriz de la Torre Viera, mother of a 10-year-old boy, is currently at home due to the risk of placenta previa. After receiving the results of the ultrasound, she was quickly transferred from her health area, an essential preventive measure given her residence. in the municipality of Sierra de Cubitas, about 50 kilometers north of the provincial capital.

The Carlos J. Finlay University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey also contributes to the improvement of maternal and child health, this is achieved through promotion and prevention initiatives implemented in maternal homes.

Within the framework of the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI), the university has undertaken various activities focused on the quality of life of pregnant women and their babies in order to raise health standards in the region.

These activities range from vocational training and professional guidance to strategies aimed at minimizing problems such as premature births and other complications prevalent in the territory.

Since its beginnings after the triumph of the Revolution, the program has expanded nationwide, reaching even remote and mountainous communities, where free consultations and diagnostic tests are carried out to prevent serious diseases or congenital malformations.
