United States Coast Guard returns 19 migrants

Havana, April 20.- The United States Coast Guard returned a group of 19 Cuban irregular migrants through the Port of Orozco, in Bahía Honda, Artemisa.

According to the website of the Ministry of the Interior, these are 17 men and two women who had left the country illegally in a sail and motor boat on April 5, through Cárdenas, Matanzas.

Due to bad weather, they sailed for approximately nine days until they were intercepted, according to the returnees.

One of those returned was transferred to the investigation body for being the alleged perpetrator of a criminal act that was being investigated before becoming involved in the illegal departure.

This is the twenty-ninth operation to return irregular migrants from different countries in the region with 374 people returned so far this year.

The Cuban authorities remain firm in their commitment to safe and orderly migration, while reiterating the danger and life-threatening conditions that illegal departures from the country represent. (ACN) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
