Havana, May 1st. - With the presence of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, it takes place, in this capital, the central event in celebration of International Workers' Day.

The José Martí Anti-imperialist Tribune hosts the celebration, a scene where nearly 200 thousand residents from five municipalities of Havana attend.

In the rest of the provinces, rallies are held in unison in the main squares to welcome the multitude of Cubans who will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the first workers' parade held after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959.

Cubans will once again demand the cessation of the US economic blockade and the exclusion of the island from the illegal list of countries supposedly sponsoring terrorism, as well as patenting their majority support for the socialist project.

The day before, the general secretary of the Cuban Workers' Central (CTC), Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, highlighted that this 1st. May will express more strongly the spirit of unity of the Cuban people in the midst of difficult circumstances, due to the harassment of the United States government and its policy of economic, financial and commercial siege against Cuba.

He also praised the participation in the events for the proletarian festival of more than a thousand foreign visitors who make up the solidarity committees with Cuba from almost 50 countries, present in the Cuban capital for an international meeting of solidarity with the island.

International Workers' Day was established since 1889 to be celebrated every 1st. May by agreement of the Socialist Workers' Congress held in Paris.

Since then, in many countries the anniversary is a reason for festivities, but in others it is an opportunity for demonstrations and struggles for the rights of the working class. (ACN, with information from PL) (Photo: @PresidenciaCuba)
