Camagüey Fishing Company: excellence in food for the people

Camagüey, May 1st.  - With a view to economic progress, the more than eight hundred employees of the Fisheries Company of Camagüey (PESCACAM) dynamically promote aquaculture and the increase of alternative production.

Armando Lázaro Pacheco Nápoles, Managing Director of PESCACAM, noted that more attractive remuneration systems have resulted in increased processing and the capture of high-value species such as claria and tilapia, for both tourism and processed food.

In addition, he highlighted the importance of acquiring inputs such as flour and other proteins to ensure various deliveries, thus meeting the needs of social consumption and dietary prescriptions, thanks to a supply of fish that has remained constant and smooth.

The first quarter of the year ended with the capture of three hundred and forty tons of fish, exceeding 50 percent of the target of more than 600 tons set for the period.

This figure reflects the commitment and effort of the staff of the five Business Base Units (UEB), even facing significant challenges.

Pacheco Nápoles highlighted the sale of gastronomic alternatives at the point of sale of the La Mosca distribution in the capital of Agramontina, where approximately 200 rations are offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, as evidence of the entity’s commitment to the community.

He stressed that significant investments included the rehabilitation of six hectares in the UEB Alevicuba for the rearing of fingerlings, the installation of a modern processing plant in Sibanicú, the restoration of the roofs of the Red Star industry and the acquisition of new technology.

In addition, he stressed that PESCACAM is the only entity in Cuba with an exportable product endorsed with the Cuban Conformity Mark, and that it has a Quality and Safety Certified System.

Despite the energy and economic restrictions, the Camagüey Fishing Company has made a remarkable effort to provide food to the people facing the challenge of meeting local demand. (Gladys Dailyn Morera Cordero/Radio Cadena Agramonte) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
