Clinics in Ecuador demand payments from the Government to continue dialysis (+ Photo)

Quito, May 1st. - The National Association of Private Clinics and Hospitals of Ecuador demanded that the Government of President Daniel Noboa pay for the dialysis treatments they provide to patients in the public sector.

The union reported that it presented a request to the Constitutional Court (CC) for the judicial instance to verify compliance with a 2020 ruling, which obliges the Executive to comply in a timely and regular manner with the financing.

In a statement that circulated this Tuesday on social networks, the director of the Association, Ana Delgado, urged the president to prioritize investment in health and respect the ruling.

Considering the various factors that threaten the continuity of the dialysis service, the CC established the Government's obligation to program the necessary funds to prevent non-payment from threatening the right to health of people with kidney failure, the group noted.

Several weeks ago, a group of patients in Quito demanded that the Executive comply with the debts of the specialized dialysis centers and today, sit-ins were held in several cities with the same objective.

The lack of payment from the state complicates care and there are already entities that have suspended care or do not have the necessary supplies for this process, essential for the lives of kidney patients who do not have private health insurance. (Text and photos: PL)
