Omara and Robiel give gold to Cuba in Paris 2024

Paris, September 3.- The runner Omara Durand and the long jumper Robiel Yankiel Sol won today Cuba's first crowns at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

At the Stade de France, on a wet morning day, the 32-year-old stellar parathlete dominated the T12 category 400 meter dash with a time of 53.59 seconds, ahead of the Iranian Hajar Safarzadeh Ghahderijani (55.39) and the Ukrainian Oksana Boturchuk ( 55.67).

For Durand, accompanied by guide Yuniol Kindelán, this was her ninth gold medal in the Paralympic Games, after those won in London 2012 (two), Rio de Janeiro 2016 (three) and Tokyo 2021 (three).

Sol retained his crown after nailing the spikes at 7.41 meters in the final of the T47 category.

He opened at the front with a discreet 7.25 meters, and in the third round he saw how the Chinese Wang Hao (7.32 m) momentarily commanded the medal dispute, but in his fourth attempt he managed to regain the top.

The silver went to Wang, and the bronze medal went to the Russian Nikita Kotukov (7.05), who competes under a neutral flag and repeated the medal he achieved in the Japanese capital. (Text and photo: JIT)
