Juan Miguel returns with triumph in athletic rally in Castellón

Havana, May 31st.- Cuban Juan Miguel Echevarría returned to the international outdoor stages with triumph in the leap of length of the athletic rally Grand Prix Grand Prix Diputación Castellón- Memorial José Antonio Cansino, in Spain.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic runner-up achieved an excellent 8.24-meter mark with a first jump that was enough to top the fair and is scored as the seventh best record of the current season.

The now student of the former stellar Ivan Pedroso had a presentation in the indoor season with a discreet mark of 7.48 meters in Pombal, Portugal. The score now leaves him just three centimeters of the 8.27 that are required as a minimum mark for the Tokyo World Championship, in September to come.

That difference is insignificant and you can be sure that with what you do this Friday in Castellón you can already feel among the insurances for the orb contest.

Juan Miguel, who was indoor world champion in 2018 and outdoor bronze in 2019, has the highest personal record 8.68 meters since January 2018. Although it also marked on one occasion 8.92 that could not be approved by the wind in favor of 3.3 meters per second, higher than the 2.0 that is the maximum allowed.

After being almost three years off the competitive landscape, the Camagueyan returned representing the Cuban federation since the middle of last year, but without achieving records that would ensure it competed in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

This Friday on Spanish soil were completed by Peruvian José Luis Mandros (8.11) and German Maximilian Entholzner (7,72) in that order.

In a few hours the attention of the Cubans will be transferred to the Hypomeeting of Gotzis in Austria, where Central African champion Marys Adela Patterson will be among the heptathlon contestants.

Between Saturday and Sunday the pupil of Gabino Arzola will seek to show herself in the best possible way to achieve a total that places him in the world of demanding discipline, especially thinking of his possible participation in the aforementioned orb contest of the Japanese capital.

Patterson has a total of 6113 points for life and will now be involved in a fair of the most important of the program of each season and which had the winner of 2024 the Dutch Vetter Anouk with 6642 units. (Text and photo: JIT)
