President reiterated denunciation of a coup d'état in Honduras

Tegucigalpa, Sep 5.- President Xiomara Castro reiterated that the dark internal and external forces of 2009, with the complicity of the national and international corporate media, are reorganizing in Honduras to deliver a new coup d'état.

In statements last night on the national radio and television network, the president referred to a 2013 video broadcast on the Insight Crime web portal, in which former deputy Carlos Zelaya appears along with a group of people currently being prosecuted for drug trafficking, addressing that they would hand over around 650 thousand dollars as a contribution to the Free Party campaign at that time.

“I condemn all types of negotiations between drug traffickers and politicians,” Castro highlighted in his speech accompanied by the Minister of Security, Gustavo Sánchez and the head of defense, Rixi Moncada. Both officials read out all the drug trafficking cases that are open for investigation in the United States courts without applying any selectivity, of which 26 are from the National Party and seven from the Liberal Party.

"I ask the Attorney General's Office to take drastic actions in all the cases presented here without any selectivity to combat drug activity," she highlighted.

The head of state also asked the National Congress, where her party is in a clear minority, to reform all legal regulations so that the currently limited state security force can vigorously combat this organized crime.

"I order the new Minister of Defense to provide all the tools and technology that the Armed Forces require to prevent Honduras from continuing to be used as a bridge for drug trafficking that is consumed by tons in the destination countries," she highlighted.

Regarding the aforementioned video, the former Honduran president Manuel Zelaya told the media that said money never reached his hands and that his brother Carlos made it clear after his voluntary statement in the Public Ministry, that he never informed the leadership of the Free Party about that meeting held 11 years ago.

The first female president of Honduras during her radio and television message pointed out that the peace and internal security of this Central American nation are at risk and the plan to destroy the government of democratic socialism and the next electoral process is underway.

After that communication, the deputy for Libre in the National Congress, Juan Barahona expressed his support for the president and added that the attorney general must now act against the cases presented.

“Enough of selectivity in justice! We Hondurans do not forget the Coup d'état and its impact on our country,” the congressman wrote on the social network X. (Text and Photo: PL)
