Mexico City, Oct 2.- The members of the Cuban medical brigade in Mexico today contribute to health care in often remote places, but they also share their knowledge while supporting the improvement of colleagues in this country.
As part of bilateral cooperation, on July 22, 2022, the first group of 54 specialist doctors arrived in the state of Nayarit and from that date until then, there are 3,248 collaborators deployed throughout Mexican lands.
Among them, 3,043 doctors from 35 specialties provide healthcare services in 596 hospitals and 500 first-level health centers, located in remote and highly marginalized areas in 23 states of the country.
A relevant aspect as part of the work is the assimilation and compliance by Cuban specialists with the regulations, standards, guides and protocols in force in the healthcare and academic units of Mexico.
Likewise, there is satisfaction among both patients and institutions, since their work and performance have a great impact on health coverage.
During these years, doctors offered 1,779,608 consultations, 52,923 operations, 3,199 deliveries and 1,562 cesarean sections.
In addition, they were in charge of 173,403 dialysis sessions, 1,446 endoscopies and 16,086 high-tech studies.
Likewise, they assisted their Mexican colleagues when caring for and saving the lives of 293,222 patients.
The cooperators also develop an academic program with 196 Medical Sciences professors who work at 83 university campuses in 22 states.
In this section, they supported the organization of the educational teaching process in the careers of General Medicine, Community Health, Nursing and Obstetrics; they participated in updating the Curriculum of the General Medicine and Community Health degree, and provided a process of academic improvement aimed at teachers, on basic and advanced pedagogy topics.
Likewise, they made available the bibliographic collection of basic books by Cuban authors and taught teaching activities to students who are generally children of low-income families. (Text and Photo: PL)
