Vientiane, October 23.- The Laos-Cuba Friendship Association (AALC) expressed here its solidarity and support for the heroic Cuban people, faced today with difficult circumstances from which they will emerge, without a doubt, victor.
“We are convinced that, with their traditional capacity, responsibility and patriotic spirit, together with the maximum efforts of everyone and under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba, they will be able to overcome these provisional difficulties and overcome all the challenges,” says the AALC statement.
The message, addressed to the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, emphasizes that the Laotian people “are aware of the most difficult and critical moment” that the Caribbean nation is going through.
The serious energy situation that affects Cuba in recent days further aggravates the already existing difficulties due to the aggressive policy and the genocidal blockade of the United States, together with the inclusion of the island in the fallacious list of countries that support terrorism, notes the text, signed by the president of the AALC, Chaleun Yiapaoheu.
On the other hand, the Cuban ambassador here, Enna Viant, thanked the consistent support and the permanent position of support provided by Laos to her country.
The diplomat made these statements at a friendly meeting held the day before to present a bilingual edition of the chapter “Solidarity” from the book “Memories of a Cuban Doctor” by Dr. Julio López.
The volume, launched in the presence of the Vice Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Chanthakone Boulaphanh, describes the vision of the head of the first medical brigade sent in September 1973 by Cuba to the liberated zone of Laos, where he served for 16 months.
It can be stated – said the ambassador – that the friendship between Cuba and Laos began to be forged from the moment the Viengxay mountains received that small contingent of eight Cuban doctors, nurses and technicians who adopted the name Salvador Allende, in homage to the late Chilean president
When saying goodbye to that first brigade, the Laotian leader Sitton Komadan described as “great and beautiful” the work carried out by the Cuban medical brigade, which also left its cultural mark in the liberated zone, where many compatriots, including children, learned about them and They sang the famous “Guantanamera”.
The meeting also served to pay a warm farewell to the Laotian delegation that will participate in the 10th Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, which will be held in Beijing on October 29 and 30. This will be one more platform to support Cuba and denounce the unjust and genocidal economic, financial and commercial blockade of the United States, at a time when the Cuban resolution on the need to end this hostile policy will be presented to the General Assembly, he stated. the diplomat.
