The Lankan leader, Sri Lanka, Cuba, United States, Bruno Rodríguez, subversive plans

Lanka leader echo complaint about U.S. money to subvert Cuba

Colombo, July 21 – The Sri Lankan newspaper, The Lanka Leader, published Cuba's recent denunciation of the United States' promotion of a $75 million budget to finance activities against the Caribbean nation.

In Sinhala, the newspaper echoed statements on the matter by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, who described as anti-Cuban politicians those who carry out the operation with the secretary of state, Marco Rubio, as the person most responsible for the use of public funds in subversive plans against the island.

The Lanka Leader noted that Rodríguez's criticism came after the Cuban Parliament rejected a Trump administration memorandum that strengthens the economic blockade and prohibits US tourism to Cuba.

While the US Congress approves cuts to national public services, certain sectors are promoting the injection of millions into programs aimed at subverting the Cuban constitutional order, the Cuban minister stated.

"They are renewing the corrupt businesses of those who enrich themselves at the expense of the American contributor and to the detriment of our people," the foreign minister wrote on social media.

The Sri Lankan media outlet noted that these statements coincide with the recent approval by the US Senate of a $9 million federal spending cut package, pushed by President Donald Trump, has not yet been ratified by the House of Representatives.

He recalled that the day before Rodríguez's statements, Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power issued a statement condemning the June 30 presidential memorandum, which bans U.S. tourism to the island and expands trade restrictions.

The Legislative document called the US government’s measure as part of a genocidal economic war and reiterated that the blockade, intensified since Trump’s return to power in 2021, seeks to suffocate Cuba and cause social collapse.

Cuban deputies emphasized that the current shortages of food, medicine, and fuel in Cuba are a direct consequence of the restrictive measures, The Lanka leader said.

Furthermore, the Cuban legislature rejected the island's inclusion on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, a designation that hinders financial transactions and worsens the economic crisis, the newspaper noted.

"The United States uses methods of pressure to achieve what it could not with the Bay of Pigs invasion: dominate Cuba," the statement concluded. (Source: Prensa Latina)
