Havana, Oct. 31. - The 28th Alicia Alonso International Ballet Festival of Havana will present today a gala dedicated to the 10th Congress of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac, by its acronym in Spanish).
The performance, at the Martí Theater in this capital, will open with a classic of Cuban modern dance, Súlkary, choreography by Eduardo Rivero, with music inspired by folkloric themes and the interpretation of a new generation of Cuban Contemporary Dance.
Súlkary was conceived by Rivero in 1971 when that company was directed by maestro Ramiro Guerra, father of Cuban modern dance, and it has not lost its relevance today or sensuality.
The French Verity Jacobsen and Antoine Dubois will perform the romantic duet of Le Parc, choreographed by Angelin Preljocaj, to music by Mozart, while the Chinese Tzu Chao Chou, representative of the Birmingham Royal Ballet of the United Kingdom, will demonstrate his technique in the piece Liebestod, by the Russian Valery Panov.
Next in the program is Delibes Suite, performed by Mathilde Froustey and Riku Ota from the Bordeaux Ballet, France, as well as Double Bounce, by Canadian choreographer Peter Quanz, performed by the principal dancers of the National Ballet of Cuba, Viengsay Valdés and Dani Hernández.
The audience will also be able to enjoy the duet of Spartacus, in a choreographic version by the Russian Yuri Grigorovich, performed by Rachele Buriassi and Esnel Ramos from Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.
To close the Gala, the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba will exhibit a fragment of Comunidad, choreographed by Leiván García.
