Havana, Nov. 14.- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez today urged participants in the COP29 Climate Action Summit to focus on financing that guarantees the implementation of actions to confront climate change.
It is time to prioritize the means that will make the implementation of what was agreed for a reinforced climate action a reality, said the head of Cuban diplomacy on the social network X.
Cuba is represented at this meeting by officials and experts from the Ministries of Science, Technology and Environment and International Relations.
On the opening day of the meeting, the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, urged to tear down the walls to climate financing by recognizing that no country is free from the destruction caused by man to the planet.
He warned that the world is in a final countdown to limit the increase in global temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius, and insisted on the need to change the current order in which “the rich cause the problem and the poor pay the highest price.”
In this context –he said- developing countries should not leave Baku empty-handed, and called for immediate action to reduce emissions, protection for the vulnerable and more funds to face the crisis.
COP29 brings together hundreds of world representatives in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22, with the purpose of creating a new financial plan to develop clean energy and overcome the repercussions of extreme weather. (Text and photo: PL)
