Cuban hero continues working visit to Russia


Moscow, Nov 15. - The Hero of the Republic of Cuba and president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP, by its acronym in Spanish), Fernando González, continues today with his working visit to the Russian Federation, Prensa Latina learned.

On Friday, the delegation headed by González will hold a discussion with the coordinators of organizations of solidarity with Cuba in Russia, veterans and friends of different political parties at the headquarters of the diplomatic mission of the Caribbean nation in Moscow.

In the afternoon they will visit the University of Friendship with the Peoples (RUDN, for its acronym in Russian), where they will meet with students and professors of the important center of higher education.

The day before, during the first day of the visit, the members of the delegation from the Caribbean nation honored the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, with a floral offering at the monument erected in his memory two years ago in the Moscow district of Sokol.

Later, the ICAP president visited the headquarters of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, where a Memorandum of Understanding between both institutions was signed.

González also participated in the International Conference “Generational Change, 60 Years Together,” dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Russian Society of Friendship with Cuba (SRAC, by its acronym in Spanish).

During the meeting, which took place at the House of Scientists in Moscow, the first presidents of the organization, Yuri Gagarin and Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, were remembered.

In addition, several representatives of the different societies of solidarity with Cuba in the Slavic nation, the president of ICAP and the director of the SRAC Alekséi Lavriv, as well as the ambassador of the Caribbean country in Moscow, Julio Garmendía, intervened.

As a culmination of the day, the SRAC awarded the 60 years medal to González, the Cuban ambassador, the director of Europe of ICAP Rigoberto Zarza and the coordinator of the committee to Fight against the blockade of Cuba in Russia, Elena Lozhkina, among other figures of solidarity.

For its part, the well-known Grenada group performed Cuban and Latin American musical rhythms and sang the songs Hasta Siempre Comandante, Regresaré and La Muralla. (Text and photo: PL)
