Gaza Strip, humanitarian crisis, war, blockade

At least 55 dead in Gaza in another day of Israeli attacks

Ramallah, May 20 – At least 55 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured today following renewed Israeli army attacks on the Gaza Strip, amid a severe humanitarian crisis affecting the territory due to the war and the blockade.

The Safa news agency reported that three citizens were killed and several injured in an Israeli drone strike in the Al-Manara area, near the southern city of Khan Yunis.

It reported that the director of the Al-Ezz Bin Abdul Salam school, Ahmed Nassar, his wife, four of his daughters, and numerous family members were killed in an airstrike against the Nuseirat refugee camp in the center of the Gaza Strip.

Safa said 13 other citizens were killed in a similar incident in the nearby city of Deir al-Balah, and an unknown number were killed in an airstrike on the northern Jabalia refugee camp.

In Gaza City, one death was reported in an Israeli attack on the Al-Zeitoun neighborhood, and 10 more in the Daraj neighborhood after a school was hit by a bomb.

Since March 18, when the Israel Defense Forces resumed its aggression against the enclave, more than 3,300 Palestinians have been killed there and another 9,300 wounded, according to official data.

In total, more than 53,000 people have died in Gaza and 120,000 have been wounded since the conflict began in October 2023.

In recent weeks, the humanitarian situation has worsened due to the total blockade imposed on March 2, which prevents the entry of food, medicine, fuel, and other vital goods.

The UN, NGOs, and several countries have intensified their condemnation against Israel in recent weeks for its refusal to allow the entry of aid. (Text and photo: PL)
