Solidarity cargo ready for Cuba in Basque Country

Madrid, Nov 19.- A solidarity shipment, mainly of equipment and medical supplies, will leave for Cuba this Wednesday, November 20, those in charge of the matter announced today.

The shipping of the container is carried out thanks to the joint work of the associations that make up FACRE “José Martí” (collectives of Cubans residing in Spain), among them Euskal Herria, Sierra Maestra-Euskadi and Desembarco del Granma, in addition to the Euskadi friendship association -Cuba.

"Given the emergency that Cuba is going through, throughout the morning of this Wednesday, November 20, solidarity volunteers will carry out loading work to send a 40-foot container with humanitarian aid to the Island, in the Biscayan town of Santurtzi," it was stated.

In that sense, they recalled that "Cuba is going through an emergency situation, after suffering the recent passage of two hurricanes and several earthquakes, which have destroyed tens of thousands of homes, serious damage to agriculture and infrastructure, and have collapsed the electrical system."

In this regard, they stressed that these phenomena occur in a country that, in addition, "is under an economic, financial and commercial blockade by the United States Government, condemned in the United Nations General Assembly (...)".

The sources added that in Basque lands, financial donations are also collected in an authorized bank account, for the sending of more humanitarian aid in the coming months, which will be managed by the Euskadi-Cuba, Sierra Maestra-Euskadi and Desembarco del Granma associations.
